Some of the most important plays the “LINES” Set can use that can flow into the continuity offenses are called the “BIG,” the “LITTLE” & the “MEDIUM” plays. The “BIG” play has 05 as the player that makes the lob cut directly to the rim when 01 makes his ‘freeze dribble’ always towards X2. 01 can also look to hit 03 as he steps up to the ‘high elbow ‘ area for a possible ‘3 pt.’ shot. 01 can also look to make an inside duck-in pass to 04, or a pass to 02 in the deep corner.
In the “BIG” entry, 01 makes his ‘freeze dribble’ at X2’s outside shoulder, pulling X1 with him. This gives the offense a ‘4 on 3’ number advantage (as long as 01 can handle the double-team trap.) To defend the “BIG” entry, X4 must decide on helping out on 04’s ‘duck-in’ cut or to cover 02 in the ‘deep corner.’ X5 must decide on whether to cover 04 down low or to go with 05 diving to the rim. X3 must decide on cutting with 05 on his dive to the basket or going with 03 at the ‘3 pt.’ line on top. 01 must handle the trap pressure & read either X3 or X4 & pass to his open teammate.
When 01 makes his ‘gap dribble,’ the “EVEN” Post Player (04) makes the ‘Duck-in Cut’ & if he does not receive 01’s pass, he then empties to the opposite mid-post area. The other post player (05–the “ODD” Post Player) runs the ‘Lob Cut’ –a straight line cut from his original location to the rim. If 05 does not receive 01’s lob pass, he also empties to the opposite mid-post area. If 01 does not make the inside pass to either post player, he looks to hit either wing player. All players are now in the ‘3-Out/2-In’ Spot-Ups for various continuity zone offenses to begin.
