MAN OFFENSIVE PLAYS

“PHOENIX”

This  play also could be executed to either side of court, but  the Wing (03 or 02) must be designated as the player that makes the ‘Iverson Cut’ over the top of the two Post Players. This instance has 02 make the ‘Iverson Cut,’  meaning that 03 remains on the low-post block on his side of the court.  01 should make the pass to 02 & then break to the new WS Wing area away from the ball. 05 & 04 remain in their initial locations.

In this  option, 03 then steps into the lane to set the (small-on-big) diagonal back-screen for 04 to use as he cuts to the newly designated BS Block area.  05 then sets a (big-on-small)  Screen the -Screener for 03 to use as he breaks to top of the key for a possible 3 pt. shot.  After screening, 05 empties down to the new WS Post area.   02 should look to hit 04 first & then looks to lob pass to 05 if 05 slips his screen & ‘rim-runs’ to basket if X5 tries to help X3 out on 05’s screen for 03.  When the ball is passed by 02 to 03, 02 & 01 remain at the wings & all five players are already in the          ‘3-Out of 2-In’ spot-ups for various Motion or Continuity Offenses to maintain the offensive attack on the defense. Keep in mind that if run to left side, it would result in a “02-05” back-screen which is probably even greater size discrepancy if the opposition switches.

# 1 “DUCK-IN”

01 can dribble to FT Line extended on either side of floor after making the  call.  Newly declared Ballside Post (04 in this case) makes a strong duck-in cut to middle of the lane.  If fronted, 01 makes ‘lob pass,’  if played behind, 01 makes bounce pass.   02 spots up in deep corner to shoot , drive or pass to 04.  03 breaks up to FT Line extended &  05 breaks to top   of key (to help Isolate  04’s defender.) No shots produced still place five players in spot-ups to continue attacking.

3rd  Option that could be used is called ‘Shuffle & Stagger.’ When 01 reverses ball to 04   steps out to set a back-screen for 01 to scrape off of as 01 cuts to basket looking for lob pass from 05. No lob pass dictates that 05 swing ball to 03 & that 01 continue across lane to post up on new ballside block.  After 05 passes ball to 03 & after 04 back-screens X1,both 05  & 04 then set a stagger screen for 02 to use.  02  cuts to top of key for a possible ‘3.’  This action also eliminates interior support that  X4 badly needs in the post.  If  shots are still not produced,  all players are in a  ‘3-Out/2-In’ Spot-Ups to continue in a ‘Motion’ or continuity offense.
