This inverting & isolating a perimeter player could also be executed to the opposite side of the floor (for 02.) This time 02 makes his vertical cut up the lane as 04 makes his “Iverson Cut“ across the top of 05 to the opposite side’s wing area. 01 must pass to 04, then flare-cut off of 02’s flare-screen to new WS Wing. This inverts & isolates a perimeter defender (X3, this time) with no close helpside support. One post player (04) has the ball with the other post player (05) still at the BS High Post. There are two different ways this play could continue, which now will be described as Options 1 and 2. If both options are to be used, it is advised to give the 2nd option an entirely different play name.
Option 2 dictates that if 04 again turns down inside passes to 03 & 05, 04 should reverse ball to 02. Immediately, 03 should chase the flight of the pass. That is, 03 ducks in when 02 receives the ball & when 02 swings the ball to 01, 03 then chases the ball to new BS Mid-Post. When 02 makes pass to 01, 02 & 05 both stagger-screen for 04 to use as he breaks to top of the key. This stagger-screen not only gives 04 an opportunity for a possible ‘3 pt.’ shot, but also eliminates any possible helpside defense that X3 would need in his unfamiliar interior defensive situation. This maintains the isolation for 03. If shots are still not taken, all five players are already in ‘3-Out of 2-In’ spot-ups for various Motion or Continuity Offenses to maintain the offensive attack on the opposition’s defense.
04 breaks up to set ball-screen for 01 & before then rolling back s down lane to post up on new BS mid-post. 01 must ‘dribble-scrape’ off of 04’s ball-screen set at top of key, looking first to hit 04 on his roll.
At same time, 05 steps up to top of key. 02 cuts through lane to new weakside mid-post area. 01 hit 04 on his roll down lane to basket, or he could make skip pass to 03 or reverse ball to 05. On skip pass to 03, 03 could shoot off of pass, create or make inside pass to 02 sealing off his inverted perimeter defender.
All five players end up in a ‘3-Out/2-In’ Spot-Ups to instantly flow into a form of a ‘Motion’ Offense or a designated continuity offense.
