Again, 01 sets his defender up by shading him first on the offense’s weak side. When 01 gets near 3 pt. line, he ‘dribble-scrapes’ off of 04’s ball-screen at top of the key towards initial strong side. When 01 turns the corner, he looks for 05, who has timed his duck-in cut to look for an inside pass from 01 (or possibly from 03). At same time 04 down-screens for 02 for 01 to possibly reverse ball to 02 for a “3.” or to occupy weakside defenders. This allows 05 to isolate X5, inside. Spot-ups are filled for a ‘4-Out/1-In’ type of offense.
The “SOLO” Set is the alignment has 3 basic entries/plays that will be discussed. The first is an entry called “PUNCH.” This can be executed with the ball being dribbled across the time-line on either the weak or the strong side. With a high degree of defensive pressure, the ball should be reversed just before one of the guards dribbles the ball across the time-line. In this play, 02 would bring the ball up to the time-line before pass-faking 04 or to 05 & then reversing the ball to 01. 01 would then dribble across the ‘time-line.’ This instance, 01 attacks the weakside.
