This play could be executed to either side, but once it is determined to be run to the right side, ( with 01 dribbling at 02) 04 cuts across the lane not only to cross-screen for 05, but also to clear the passing lane for 01 to hit 02 on his pre-designed ‘back-door cut.’ If 01 does not hit 02 on his cut to the basket, 02 button-hooks to post up & again invert a perimeter player on the new BS Mid-Post. 05 scrapes off of 04;s screen to become the new BS High Post Player. 04 then screens & releases to top of key. 03 spots up on the newly declared WS Wing area. 01 could go inside to 02 or 04 or skip to 03.
If 01 cannot make inside passes to 02 & 05, he can reverse ball to 04 on top.
01 then makes a ‘shuffle-cut’ off of 05, cutting diagonally across lane to opposite side’s mid-post.
05 then steps to newly vacated wing.
If 04 does not hit 01, 04 should swing ball to 03. He then follows with a diagonal down-screen for 02 to scrape off of for a possible 3-pt. shot at top of the key. 04 & 02’s action temporarily eliminates helpside defense that X1 needs to defend 01.
If no perimeter or inside shots are produced, all five players are in ‘3-Out of 2-In’ Spot-Ups for many Motion Offenses or several continuity offenses can continue.
The “HEADS” entry has 01 make a ‘gap dribble’ that triggers both post players’ respective cuts. 04 makes a ‘gap cut’ anywhere into the dotted circle area, while 05 steps towards the basket & looks for a lob pass from 01. The “HEADS” play dictates that 04 then empties out AWAY from the original stack side, while 05 returns to that stack side. If 01 does not make the interior pass (to 05 or 04), but passes to 02), 01 then ‘flare-cut’s to the new weakside wing after 03 flare-screens for him. If no scores develop, all players end up 3-Out/2-In’ Zone spot-ups; so that the attack can continue.
